Wall Stencils Question And Answer

Properly stencil letters on a wall?

I was wanting to stencil a phrase on my son's bedroom wall. It'd be too expensive to order the vinyl stick-ons. Any suggestions on type of paint to use and how to keep it even and equally space my words and letters? Thanks!

try this.. http://stencils4u.com/instructions.html use a tape measure to space your letters usually about 1/4 of an inch apart. and to level them.
Hi, I stenciled my daughter's room before she was born and I bought plastic stencils to use. I would suggest you do the same (you can most likely find alphabet stencils on-line). If you don't want to buy them you can make them on your own. Just trace a letter on cardboard or plastic and then cut it out. When you do the next letter, make sure the plastic or cardboard is the same size so, it will be easier to make sure the letters line up with each other. You could also put the whole phrase on cardboard or plastic if it wasn't too long. When you are ready to paint them on the wall, put the first stencil up and mark each corner with a pencil then paint. When you are ready to put up the next stencil, line it up with the two corners from the first stencil. Use a leveler to make sure it is level and then mark the other two corners. You keep doing this until your last letter. I would use a regular flat latex paint. You can get small sample jars of paints from Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams. You can also use acrylic paints (this is what I used for my daughter's room since there were so many colors) and you can get these from any art store. Good Luck!
