Wall Stencils Question And Answer
How do you remove painted stencil work from a wall in your house?
Its called tataouge
Its a press on stencil made of paint and I was wondering how to remove it?
Answers
You're going to have to sand it off and then repaint.
did you try a heat gun or blow dryer?
not much you can do execpt paint over it.
Tatouage should be treated as if it were really a hand-painted mural. You can paint right over it, I would suggest that you prime the area first, Using a wall primer, just the same as if you were painting over any hand-painted mural.
glue, tomatoes and more paper
if its painted on the wall then you probably just have to paint over it. use primer so the image doesn't show through. if the stencil has texture or sticks out from the wall you may have to sand the surface smooth again before painting. good luck.
You can't remove it but you can cover it up. Depending on the color of paint used on the stencil, you may need a primer so when you reapply paint to cover it up, it won't leak or show through.
Does it stick out or is it just like paint, flat on the wall. If it is flat, you can just prime over it with primer and then repaint.
Just sponge paint over it using several colors. Prime first, of course!
You can try using a spray bottle with warm water and dish soap and let it soak in, then take a plastic putty knife and see if it will lift off.
Good question!!!!
I looked it up since it is something I have considered using in my home, but never thought about the removal before. Good call.
So here is what I found doing a google search:
Option 1:
you can paint over it. You have to first paint with a primer or KILLS, and then paint to remove all traces of the design. If you double over with a flower or another leaf you have to sand it down as it will show up.
Option 2:
I found to remove the tatouage, simply use an inexpensive nail polish remover. Non-acetone works as well as acetone. I put some on a large cotton ball, and simply wipe. Its is then so easy to repaint.
Option 3:
then our painter said to go and get a product that is meant to hide dark colors. It worked very well and completely covered, even the wrought iron trellis. Jusy ask at your local paint shop.
According to this website:
http://www.tatouageinteriordecorating.com/
tatouage is permanent. You can't remove it. The only way to way to get rid of it is to paint over it.
well, it really depends on the type of paint the "stencil" is made of. I'm going to venture a guess that the stencil is made of either gloss latex or acrylic latex paint ( it will be gloss if the paint is shiny when light is reflected on it)
if it is latex, then, i've found the perfect way of removing paint. Granted, it was not made for removing paint, but it worked when i was refinishing my sailboat. ( it took off about 4 coats of aquatic paint and 3 coats of metal primer.) If it did that good on paint that tough, then it should do wonders for your wall. It's called Formby's Paint Remover and its supposed to be used for taking finishes off of old furnature for revarnishing.
And, its simple to use. All you do is brush it on, wait for the paint to bubble, then scrape it off. However, BE WARNED... I don't know how it will react to a wall. ( I used it an aluminum boat) The safest thing to do is to test it on a little patch of wall, then if it works, do the whole thing.
I hope this helped,
