Tattoo Stencils Question And Answer
How is possible in this day and age someone can get a crappy tattoo?
I don't get it. I was looking at rate my ink a minute ago. Some of those tattoo lines are so shaky it looks like the artist was sitting on a paint shaker while doing it. That and some are crooked, misplaced.
Did thier artists not do a stencil? With my tats I they place a stencil on me and I could see the placement, wear it for a bit, check out the lines etc etc get peoples thoughts on it.
I just don't understand it.
Is it do to scratchers?

I think a lot of people don't put any thought into getting inked. They don't look around and check out the artist, and if they do it is to find the cheapest price. Then you have the people who have no training, just decided to do tatts out of their house one day. It realy is a shame.
i kept wiggling when i got my tattoo done, and my artist had to stop often in order to avoid shakey lines. maybe their artists didn't care enough to take the time and wait and kept going while the people adjusted and moved?
Well you get what you pay for, if you pay a cheap price for a tat, it's going to BE a cheap tat. Some people just don't understand that concept until it's too late. There is one good thing about a crappy tat; you can get it covered up with something even better!!!!
I have seen some on the rate my ink that really sucked too. Are yours on there? I would like to see them.
You show me yours and i'll show you mine.......
Tattoo over the last 10 or so years tattoos have become more and more popluar. More celebrities have got tattoos and now too many people are getting tattoo as a fashion statement. Because of so many people wanting tattoo's there are more and more scratchers.
If you don't know what a scratcher is a scratcher is an inexperienced, untalented, unclean and untrained tattooer. Though usually found working out of home kitchens, they have been known to find work in disreputable tattoo shops. The word "Scratcher" comes from the look of the, so called "tattoos", they produce. Looking more like colored scratchs, than recognizable images.
The internet has made it easy to order everything you need to start off your unsafe tattooing career. Scratchers are dangerous you'll end up with a rubbish tattoo and there is a chance of getting hep c. Most people go to scratchers because they charge alot less that a proper tattoo artist. You get what you pay for, you go to a scratcher and you'll end up with a crooked tattoo.
I agree with you,( SCRATCHERS )...
They find people that are stupid enough to let these inexperienced wannabees scar them for life. These are people that don't have respect for the art, I am a Tattooist or Tattoo Artist which ever one you prefer, and I had to work my way up!!!!! 20 years experience and I feel like there's still more to learn...Point is , you cant be a know it all. chances are; the know it all is the most inexperienced.
I agree with the above posters on their points, but especially on issue of cost. People complain enough about the price of permanent, high quality art (and let's not start on tipping...) that I can see some base an artist choice purely on cost.
That's before trying to talk the artist down, of course, and perhaps see if they can make the tat simpler, less colorful, smaller, or whatever, to drop the price further.
I love that my shop has a sign on the door that says (along the lines of) the following:
"If you are underage, drunk, high, pregnant, sunburned, broke, looking for a deal, copping an attitude... come back later when you're not".
No messing around with them, and nothing they'll do to bring the art form down.
Because their buddy says "hey I just got a tattoo gun/needle and india ink/whatever and I'll give you a tattoo for $20!" It goes downhill from there....
I love my tattoos. But on one of them, I had been there for about 4 hours working on the outline and I was at my limit and I was shaking and twitching bad. I really wanted to finish the outline and part of it is a little shaky.
But I have seen some REALLY bad tattoos. I think people don't put time into looking for a good tattoo artist. There are places around here that only do flash. People want to be able to say "i have a tatto", not "I have a good tattoo". I worked with a girl that wins my award for worst tattoo ever. She wanted a sun with yellow and orange and red with her name under it. What she got was a yellow oval with red flamey outline that was about 3/4 an inch out from the yellow blob with her initials in black below it. It looks like a fried egg.
