Stencils Question And Answer

How do I keep stencils to stay down?

I keep trying to spray paint stencils but when I spray paint it the stencil goes up causing it to mess up the details. Im just using normal printer paper. Is there a solution to this without buying a different material. Like putting clear tape on the sheet before cutting it? It is on grip tape which is pretty much sand paper that im spray painting on

spray the stencils with a clear coat (not too heavy). then let dry. after you can use safe release tape to hold them.
I use spray adhesive on the back side of the stencil. It holds it on long enough to paint.
I would suggest using the right material. You will want to get the thick plastic stencil material. It'll save you time and headache and isn't that expensive. The other thing is to use a thicker paper like poster board and use a lightweight adhesive spray. This way, you place it where you want, paint, then remove. The adhesive will work several times before you have to reapply.
I use a baking product called parchment paper that has a teflon based coating on the paper which will not absorb the paint. You can find this paper sheet in roll form in your grocery store where they sell alumimun foil and plastic wrap. Spray the completed stencil with a light coating of spray adhesive to get the stencil to stick in place. Good luck =)
The force of the air is what's moving the stencil. Spray further back, or use a heavier material, like others have said.
