Stenciling Question And Answer
what other types of household things can i use in place of paint brushes for stenciling?
Answers
Sponges.
sponge, old t-shirt
and foam brushes, plastic wrap, and paper towels
Cut potatoe halves....rags, spatula....
Sponges are very good to use and very cheap...infact, I would rather use a sponge than a paintbrush to stencil!
Old rags are good as well.
One time I used a Maxi pad.
It was a clean one, of course.
i disagree with the plastic wrap answer only because i think plastic isn't absorbent enough for stenciling (just what i think)
sponges, wadded up cloth, ...makes neat designs
Well, there are quite a number of items you can use. Here's a list:
Paper towels
Rags
Old t-shirt
Sponges
Styrofoam packing
Foam pieces
Foam eggcrate mattress pieces
Maxi pads (yes... clean ones!)
and my all-time favorite for stenciling:
a tampon (yes... once again a clean one...)
Tampons are great and they work wonders and stencil well since they hold the paint well, are easy to manipulate and you can brush with them or stamp with them.
I once watched a show were they used a crinkled up paper bag it looked really cool almost like a crackle or fux suede finish.
